Winnipeg is a lovely city with much to offer! For your convenience, we have complied a list of notable attractions near the University of Winnipeg campus.
While there are many fun things to do and places to go near UWinnipeg, we would like to remind you that we are located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Since we are not on a secluded campus, we encourage you to stay safe in the city! To help discourage any incidents, please use the buddy system and never walk alone- especially at night! The University of Winnipeg offers a SafeWalk program to escort students walking alone at night. Wandering off campus? Try the downtown SafeWalk program instead!
The Forks – Local hot spot features shops, markets, a scenic river walk and more! (approx. 10min bus ride from UW on buses 162, 160 (southbound))
Canadian Museum for Human Rights – The only national museum outside of Ontario, the museum offers many powerful exhibits on the history of human rights in Canada. Located at The Forks (see above).
The Exchange – The trendy district is home to many locally owned small businesses; shops, restaurants, boutiques, gallaries, theaters, and bars. The outdoor stage hosts many free events in spring and summer, and in the evenings, the exchange is home to Winnipeg’s largest concentration of night life. (approx 20min walk from UW)
Polo Park Mall – Winnipeg’s most popular shopping center. (approx 20 min bus ride on buses 11, 14 (westbound))
Assiniboine Park – One of the city’s largest parks featuring an out door stage, walking/biking trails, gardens, and the city zoo. (approx 40min bus from UW on bus 66 (westbound))
Restaurants near the University of Winnipeg
Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub – The official campus bar. Located in the UW AnX (just near main campus) it is host to many school group and public events such as trivia nights and paint nite. Many students enjoy meeting at the near by spot after tough exams and sports games to unwind.
The Good Will Social Club – The unofficial campus bar. Located just a half block away from the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, this spot is a cafe by day and bar by night, hosting some sort of event or live local music nearly every night!
Stella’s – Popular local restaurant famous for their baked goods, homemade jams, and all day breakfast. Located one block east of main campus.
Banh Mi King – Just across the street from main campus, this locally own Vietnamese restaurant is a fantastic choice to dine-in or take-out.
Chosabi – Home of the ‘Sushi Burrito’, this spot offers great sushi and poke bowls. Located across the street from main campus.
Feast Cafe Bistro – First Nation inspired cuisine with a modern twist. Located one block north of the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex.
Boon Burger Cafe – All vegan restaurant focused on creating unique and exciting dishes for a burger experience unlike anything you’ve had before! Enjoyed by those with vegan and non-vegan diets alike. (approx 10 min walk south of Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex)
Moxie’s – This favorite chain local is a great bet for dinner and drinks! Located inside BellMTS Place (approx 10min walk from UW)
Tavern United – Sports bar with standard pub fare. Located inside the BellMTS Place (approx 10min walk from UW)
Subway – Across the street from main campus.
Starbucks – Located on campus in the UW AnX.
McDonalds – One block from the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex.
Tim Hortons (2) – One located 3 blocks west of the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, one located in Portage Place Mall, 2 blocks east of main campus.
